Grandma’s Day and Grandpa’s Day — Grandparents’ Day (Dzień Babci i Dziadka, 21–22 January) — are among the most family-centred occasions of the year in Poland: grandchildren make handmade cards, the family gathers around the table and the grandparents listen to the wishes. Yet every year the same question comes back — what to give grandparents who “don’t need anything”? Another scarf, flowers and a box of chocolates are a nice gesture, but they rarely stay with them for long. We have gathered ready-made formats on the page a gift for grandma and grandpa, and in this guide we suggest how to choose a gift from the grandchildren, what to write on it and when to order so you are comfortably ready for 21 and 22 January.
When is Grandparents’ Day
Grandma’s Day falls on 21 January and Grandpa’s Day on 22 January. With the two days back to back, many families celebrate them together: one visit, one shared dinner and one gift for both grandparents. It is also a good excuse to gather the whole family — children, grandchildren and sometimes great-grandchildren. Just remember that both days come right after the holiday season, when there are a lot of orders, so it pays to think about the gift earlier.
What to give grandma and grandpa — ideas from the grandchildren
The gifts that delight them most are the ones that show them and their family. Figures from photos take a place of honour on the living-room shelf, and grandparents love telling every guest about them. Here are some tried-and-tested ideas.
A family frame from all the grandchildren
The most popular choice is one large frame with the grandparents in the middle and their children and grandchildren around them. We make every figure from a photo, and the background can show the family name, “Best grandparents”, the year or a photo of the family home. The largest frame, 40×50 cm, holds up to 50 figures — grandparents, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. See what a family frame with figures looks like, or build your own in the frame set builder — you choose the size, figures, background and message.
A figure of grandma or grandpa from a photo
When each grandchild wants to give something of their own, individual figures work better. Grandma in her favourite jumper with a book in hand, grandpa in his hat with a guitar or a mug of coffee — a detail in hand says more about a person than any caption. It is not a portrait but a recognisable likeness: hairstyle and hair colour, glasses, beard, clothing style. See how a custom figure from a photo is made.
A ready-made grandma and grandpa design
If you don’t know where to start, take the grandma and grandpa figures as your starting point: grandpa in a flat cap, glasses and an argyle vest, with a newspaper and a walking stick, and grandma with a grey bun, glasses and a knitted jumper. You can order the design as it is or change the hairstyles and hair colour, glasses, clothes and accessories, with the faces recreated from photos. Among the ready-made designs you will also find a gardener, a book lover and a pastry chef — for a grandma who loves her garden, reads every evening or bakes for every holiday.
A stand with a message
The figure can stand on a stand with a message: “For our dear Grandma”, “For Grandpa from the grandchildren”, the grandchildren’s names or a date. It is a simple way to link the gift at once to this day and to the people it is from.
The grandparents’ pet as well
The grandparents’ dog or cat is part of the family too and can stand in the frame next to its owners. We make a pet figure from a photo — hand-painted to capture the pet’s distinctive markings. There is also room next to the figures for small things that matter to the grandparents: flowers, a cake or equipment for their hobby.
A keychain with a figure
For a grandpa who never parts with his keys, a keychain is a good fit: the same figure from a photo, just with a carabiner — it travels on keys, on a backpack or in the car. Each grandchild can give a small gift like this separately, even when the family is also preparing a shared frame.
A gift from the grandchildren: how to prepare it together
A shared gift from all the grandchildren is easiest to order together with siblings and cousins. A few rules that make it simpler:
- One person coordinates. They collect photos from the whole family and feedback on the design, then approve it — so nothing gets lost in family group chats.
- Everyone sends their own photo. One clear, front-facing photo of the face is enough — an ordinary phone photo. Photos from different people and of different quality are usually fine — we look at the hairstyle, hair colour and overall style.
- Old photos of the grandparents will do too. What matters is the hairstyle, hair colour, glasses and favourite outfit, not sharpness. If something is not visible, we will ask before designing.
- You don’t have to build it yourself. Send the photos and briefly describe your idea — the designer will put the frame together for you and show you the design, at no extra charge.
- The youngest grandchildren. The figures are a keepsake, not a toy: they are not intended for children under 3. Little ones can help choose the background or the message instead.
What to write on a gift for grandparents
Short messages work best, and longer wishes will fit on the frame background. A few ideas:
- On the stand — “For our dear Grandma”, “For Grandpa from the grandchildren”, “To the best Grandparents” or the grandchildren’s names.
- On the frame background — the family name, “Best grandparents”, the year or wishes from all the grandchildren.
- For a milestone anniversary — when the grandparents celebrate their golden wedding this year: “50 years together”, their names and wedding year.
When to order a gift for Grandparents’ Day
Both days come right after the holiday season, when there are a lot of orders. The safest option is to order at the beginning of January — that leaves time to approve the design and for delivery. It is best to plan the timeline backwards:
- The holidays — photos. When the family gathers around the Christmas table, it is easy to take photos of the grandparents and ask cousins for theirs.
- Early January — the order. You send photos or build the figures in the builder. We send the design for approval before production.
- Approval and shipping. After your “yes” we usually ship the next working day, and delivery within Poland takes 1–3 working days: InPost Paczkomat, a DPD pickup point or courier.
- 21 and 22 January — handing it over. The figures arrive assembled, in gift packaging. In a frame we ship them separately so they don’t scratch the glass in transit — the stands are already glued to the background, and you simply press the figure on like a brick.
When the date is close, there is a paid “Express shipping” option in the cart. And if you can’t visit, we will send the gift straight to the grandparents: enter their address or Paczkomat when ordering and write in the comment that it is a gift.
How ordering from Kloniko works
- You build it yourself or send photos. In the builder you see the result right away: you choose the hairstyle, face, clothes and accessories. Prefer to send photos — the designer will do it for you.
- We show you the design. We match the hairstyle, hair colour, glasses and clothes and send the design for approval — before production. Revisions are free and unlimited.
- We assemble. After your “yes” we usually ship the next working day.
- We ship. Delivery within Poland takes 1–3 working days — to you or straight to the grandparents.
We build the figures from genuine LEGO® elements and add our own UV printing: face, clothes, lettering. A figure is about 4 cm tall and arrives assembled, in gift packaging — ready to hand over right away.
Frequently asked questions
When should I order a gift for Grandparents’ Day?
The safest option is early January: that leaves time to approve the design, and after your “yes” we usually ship the next working day. Delivery within Poland takes 1–3 working days.
We only have old photos of our grandparents. Are they enough?
Usually yes. We look at the hairstyle, hair colour, glasses and favourite outfit, not sharpness. Before production we show you the design and revise it as many times as needed — free of charge.
How many people fit in a frame?
It depends on the size: standard frames range from 13×18 to 40×50 cm, in white or black. The smaller ones fit a couple or a small family, the largest up to 50 figures. For bigger orders we make a custom-size frame, up to 1 metre.
Can you send the gift straight to the grandparents?
Yes. Enter their address or Paczkomat when ordering and write in the comment that it is a gift — it will arrive in gift packaging.
Will the figure look like grandma or grandpa?
It is not a portrait but a recognisable likeness: hairstyle and hair colour, glasses, beard, clothing colour and style, an accessory in hand. You see the design before production and can ask for any change.
