How to make your own figure from a photo — step by step

A figure from your photo is a small brick copy of a person: hairstyle, hair colour, glasses, clothes and a favourite little thing in hand. It sounds complicated, but in practice all it takes is one phone photo and a few decisions. In this step-by-step guide we show how to make your own figure from a photo: which photo to send, when to build it yourself in the builder and when to leave it to a designer, how to choose the hair, clothes and message, and what happens after you place the order. You will also find all formats and examples on the custom figure from your photo page.

Step 1. Choose the format: figure, frame or keychain

The figure itself is always the same — the difference is what comes with it. Before you think about the photo, decide where the gift will stand or hang. If there will be several figures — a couple, a family or a whole team — think of a frame straight away: all the characters stand side by side, with room for a shared message on the background.

  • A single figure — stands on a desk, shelf or monitor. It is about 4 cm tall and arrives assembled, in gift packaging. A good choice when the gift is for one person.
  • A frame with figures — when there are several figures or you want a message next to them. The background can show names, a date, wishes, a photo or an important place. Standard frames range from 13×18 to 40×50 cm, in white or black; the largest one fits up to 50 figures. You can build a frame in the frame builder.
  • A keychain — the same figure with a snap hook: it travels on your keys, on a backpack or in the car.
  • A pet alongside — a dog or cat can get its own figure from a photo, hand-painted, and stand next to its owner.

Step 2. Prepare a good photo

The photo determines how accurately we capture the hairstyle, hair colour and style. The good news: no studio shoot is needed. A few simple rules:

One clear photo of the face is enough

Ideally the face is looking straight ahead, takes up a clear part of the frame and is not blurry. An ordinary selfie or phone photo is perfectly fine. A group photo works too if the face is large — just tell us which person you mean.

Daylight, no strong filters

Photos taken by a window or outdoors work best. Strong filters, face beautification and black-and-white effects change the real colour of hair and skin. If in doubt, send the original without editing.

Hair visible, glasses as in everyday life

The hairstyle is one of the main features that make a figure recognisable, so a cap or hood hides it. If the person always wears glasses, choose a photo with them — we will pick glasses for the figure too. Sunglasses are better off: they hide the face.

Outfit and hobby — in separate photos

If a particular outfit matters, add a full-length photo. You can show a favourite object, a pet or a hobby in one more photo — it is exactly these details that bring the figure to life.

When the gift is a surprise

Can’t ask for a photo? A picture from social media or a shared album will do. An old photo works too — we look at the hairstyle, hair colour and overall style, not at sharpness. Only the person ordering sees the design preview, and we can send the figure straight to the recipient: when ordering, enter their address or parcel locker and write in the comment that it is a gift.

Step 3. Build it yourself in the builder or leave it to a designer

There are two ways, and both cost the same — the price and lead time are identical. Pick the one that suits you better. Both routes end the same way: with a design preview to approve before production.

Online builder — full control

In the figure builder you put the character together yourself, in the browser, with nothing to install. You choose the hair, skin colour, face, clothes, legs and accessories, see a 3D preview as you go, and the price updates instantly. It usually takes about 10–15 minutes. A good route if you like to perfect every detail yourself.

“Let a designer do it” — when you’re short on time

On the figure set page, choose the designer option. You answer a few questions — how many figures, figure or keychain, when you need the gift, the occasion, your wishes and where to contact you — which takes about 2 minutes. You don’t have to upload photos right away: after you place the order we will message you and take them in the messenger. The designer picks the elements and shows you the design preview. There is no extra charge for this.

A ready-made design as a starting point

If you are short on ideas, have a look at the ready-made designs: a teacher, a programmer, a doctor, a chef, a bride and groom and many more. You can order a design as it is or adapt it to your person — change the hairstyle and hair colour, clothes and accessory, and recreate the face from a photo.

Step 4. Hair, clothes, accessories and message

It is not a portrait but a recognisable likeness. People are recognised by a few details, so they are worth a moment of your time:

  • Hairstyle and hair colour — choose the one the person wears day to day: length, fringe, ponytail, curls.
  • Face — glasses, beard, moustache, facial expression. These details make the biggest difference.
  • Clothes — a favourite jumper, shirt, dress or work outfit. Colour and style are what count.
  • Accessories — a cup of coffee, a book, a guitar, a laptop, a camera. A detail in hand says more about a person than any message.
  • Message — under the figure you can place a stand with a message: a name, a date or a short “For the best sister”. Longer wishes fit on the frame background, as in a family frame with figures.

Step 5. Approving the design

Before we assemble anything, we send you the design preview for approval. Production starts only after your “yes”. Revisions before approval are free and unlimited: just write “lighter hair”, “add glasses” or “a different background”, and we will send the revised design again. The “Delight guarantee” also applies: if you don’t like the design and revisions don’t help, we refund 100% of your payment before production. And if you remember something important after paying, write to us with your order number — as long as the order has not gone into production, changes to the design are free.

Step 6. Production and delivery

  1. We assemble. We aim to ship orders placed on working days the next working day after the design is approved, and those from Friday or the weekend — on the first working day.
  2. We ship. Parcels leave from near Warsaw, and delivery within Poland takes 1–3 working days: InPost Paczkomat, a DPD point or courier. The tracking number arrives by email.
  3. You hand it over. The figure arrives assembled, in gift packaging. Figures for a frame are sent separately so they don’t scratch the glass in transit — the stands are already glued to the background, and you just press the figure on like a brick.

When the date is close, there is a paid “Ekspresowa wysyłka” (express shipping) option in the cart. During busy periods, e.g. before the holidays, fulfilment may take longer, so it is better to order a gift for a specific date in advance. We assemble the figures from genuine LEGO® elements and complete them with our own UV printing: face, clothes, messages.

Common mistakes

  • A photo with a filter or taken in the dark. Hair and skin colour then come out different from real life.
  • An old photo with no comment. If the person has since changed their hairstyle or grown a beard, let us know.
  • A group photo from far away. For a couple or family, send a photo of each person and label who is who: “mum”, “dad”, “Zosia”.
  • A company logo on the figure’s T-shirt. We don’t put logos or trademarks on the figure itself — a logo can go on the frame background, the stand or the packaging.
  • A celebrity or a film character. We don’t make such likenesses: we create figures of real people based on your photos.
  • Ordering at the last minute. What takes the most time is not assembly but agreeing on the design, so it’s worth sending the photo as soon as you have chosen the gift.

Frequently asked questions

How much will the figure look like the person in the photo?

The figure has a brick style, so the likeness comes from the hairstyle, hair and skin colour, glasses, beard, clothes and accessories, not from photographic accuracy of the face. You see the design preview before production and can ask for any change.

How many photos do I need to send?

One clear photo of the face, looking straight ahead, in daylight is enough. A full-length photo and a photo of a hobby are welcome but not required.

Does a designer cost more than the builder?

No. Both ways have the same price and the same lead time — you only pay for the product.

Can I order just one figure?

Yes, there is no minimum order. For a couple or a family a frame is more convenient — it can hold up to 50 figures.

Is the figure suitable for a small child?

The figures contain small parts, so they are not intended for children under 3. It is a keepsake, not a toy for a toddler.
