Custom minifigure made to order: your own character, unusual elements and designs from scratch

‘Custom minifigure’ is a phrase that covers very different orders: a small copy of a specific person, a character from an RPG session, a company mascot or the hero of a book written for a child. At Kloniko we make any custom figures — including complex projects in which we design a missing element for the customer and 3D-print it. Below we explain what can be done, how the different levels of ‘custom’ differ, what ordering looks like, what it costs and what we don’t make.

The starting point: a figure from a photo

The most common custom figure is a small copy of a specific person. We build the likeness from the whole look: hairstyle and hair colour, skin tone, glasses, beard, clothes and an accessory in hand. It is a brick style, not a photographic portrait — and that is exactly why an ordinary phone photo is enough.

You can build the figure yourself in the creator on the figure from a photo page — hairstyle, skin tone, face, clothes, legs and accessories — or send a photo to a designer at no extra cost. For personalisation we use our own printing: the head can have a custom facial expression, the torso clothes, text or a drawing, and the legs printed trousers or a skirt. A personalised figure like this, made of LEGO® elements, is about 4 cm tall and arrives assembled, in gift packaging. We have described how to prepare photos in our guide how to make a figure from a photo.

Your own character: from an RPG session to a company mascot

A figure doesn’t have to depict a real person — it can be made from your own idea. A few examples worth coming to us with:

  • A character from an RPG session. Your hero from a tabletop role-playing game: race, class, favourite prop, cloak colours. A good gift for the whole party after a finished campaign.
  • Your avatar. A character you invented yourself and that your online friends know — with a distinctive hairstyle, outfit and accessory.
  • A company or team mascot. A character in your colours and style. We place the company logo on the stand or packaging — we do not put logos on the figure itself.
  • The hero of a book for a child. A character from a story you wrote yourself or tell at bedtime — a keepsake for the shelf for a child aged 3 and up.

For an order like this, a description of the character, colours, a sketch or a few reference images and a list of accessories all help. The designer will choose the elements, and if none of them fits, we will design our own (more on that below).

Costumes and roles without other people’s logos

A popular idea is you or someone close to you in a role: a knight in armour, an astronaut in a spacesuit, a superhero with a cape, a wizard with a wand, a detective with a magnifying glass. A good starting point is our ready-made designs. The superhero has a red costume and a navy cape without an emblem, so the hero is exactly the person you have in mind. The magician has a top hat, a dinner jacket and a magic wand, and the detective a hat, a coat and a magnifying glass. A design can be ordered as it is or adjusted: hairstyle and hair colour, face (including from a photo), clothes, accessory. Roles that are not among the designs we will put together from your description.

Unusual 3D-printed elements

We have hundreds of individual minifigure parts — hairstyles and headwear, accessories, torsos, legs — so most ideas can be assembled from ready-made elements. Sometimes, though, nothing fits: an unusual hairstyle, a hat exactly like the one in a particular photo, a prop linked to a hobby, a mascot’s ears or helmet. In that case we design such an element for the customer and 3D-print it.

We are upfront about this: the 3D-printed elements are our own — they are not LEGO® parts. The rest of the figure is made of genuine LEGO® elements, completed with our printing. We agree the price and lead time of a 3D element individually after the brief — they depend on its complexity. Bear in mind, too, that the size of the figure may change slightly depending on the hairstyle, headwear or accessories.

We also make pets by hand: we paint a pet figure from a photo so it can stand next to its owner.

How to order a custom minifigure

  1. Brief. Write to us via the contact form: photos of the person (face straight on, in daylight; full length if the outfit matters), a description of the character, reference images, colours, accessories, the text for the stand and the date by which you need the figure.
  2. Quote. When existing elements and printing are enough, you pay for the product as in the creator — the price is shown on the product page. When a 3D element is needed, we give you the price and lead time after the brief.
  3. Design for approval. Before we make anything, we send you the design. We only start production after your ‘yes’. For figures made from ready-made elements, revisions are free and unlimited.
  4. Production and shipping. We usually ship a standard figure on the next working day after approval, and delivery takes 1–3 working days within Poland and 2–6 working days elsewhere in the EU (other countries: cost confirmed before dispatch). For 3D elements, the lead time agreed after the brief applies.

If you need not a figure but a whole scene or model, we also design custom brick sets made to order.

What we don’t make — and what we offer instead

We do not make figures of characters protected by copyright and trademarks — heroes of well-known films, TV series, games and comics — or likenesses of celebrities and public figures. We do not put company or brand logos or political, religious or military symbols on figures, and we do not make uniforms, offensive content or violent scenes. If a design breaks these rules, we will suggest a change or refund the full amount before work begins.

Instead of someone else’s character, we will make you in a similar style: a space pilot in your favourite colours, a wizard with a wand, a knight in your own colours, a superhero without someone else’s emblem. A figure like this is more personal than a copy of a famous hero — because you are the one playing the part.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a custom minifigure cost?

It depends on the complexity. A figure made from ready-made elements with our printing costs whatever the creator shows on the product page — the designer doesn’t charge extra. When an element designed and 3D-printed by us is needed, we prepare an individual quote after the brief.

Is a 3D-printed element a LEGO® part?

No. The elements we design and 3D-print are our own. The other parts of the figure are genuine LEGO® elements with our printing. Kloniko is an independent brand, not affiliated with the LEGO Group.

Will you make a figure of a hero from a film or a game?

No — such characters are protected by third-party rights. Instead, we will happily make you in a similar genre: a pilot, a wizard, a knight or a superhero to your own design, without other people’s logos and emblems.

Have an idea for your own character or an unusual element? Describe it via the contact form — we will prepare a design and a quote. If you are starting from a photo, you will find all the formats and tips on the page figure from a photo made to order.
